The Black Heart in Camden has revealed that it’s in “serious trouble”, requiring £100,000 to avoid permanent closure. The venue, which is an “integral part of the UK underground heavy music scene and international touring circuit”, has previously been a host venue “for festivals such as Desertfest, Incineration Fest and Camden Rocks”. The venue has also been played by many artists over the years including Idles, The Bronx, Lightning Bolt, Every Time I Die, Venom Prison, Red Fang, Crowbar and YOB to name a few.
The independently owned bar and live venue has spent the last year trying to adapt to meet government coronavirus guidelines, so that it could continue trading through the pandemic. Today the venue released a statement saying “We were closed for months only to reopen at less than half our capacity and with hardcore restrictions. We still managed to successfully put on 11 socially distanced gigs and 8 live streams, but it was not enough to keep us going.”
The venue has now launched a Crowdfunder to help raise the funds needed for the venue, and are offering various prizes in return released each week.
Taking to Twitter the venue said “After a year of adapting our bar and venue to meet government guidelines due to this awful pandemic, we sadly can’t go further on our own. We need to raise £100,000 by the end of March 2021 to avoid permanent closure!”
Continuing “We are independently owned and operated and are proud to have retained all our staff, because we’re a family. We are now reaching out to our extended Black Heart family for support as we launch our #savetheblackheart Crowdfunder.”

Prizes included in the Crowdfunder include items that have been donated by local and international bands. The first round of goodies up for grab includes Orange amplifiers, a Ritual Productions bundle pack, collectable posters, and a ticket to Bristol’s craft beer festival, with brewery tour.
The venue will also be giving some special Black Heart prizes, including a golden guestlist ticket – Which will allow you +1 guestlist to black heart shows for a year. If you want to try and get any of the prizes, you can vist the Crowdfunder here.

The venue isn’t the first we’ve seen under threat of closure over the last year, and unfortuently probably won’t be the last. Previously Soho’s Crobar was forced to close due to the pandemic, with it raising over £40,000 for a planned reopening.
