Bring Me The Horizons released their new EP ‘Post Humans: Survival Horror’ on Friday, which has so far been received highly by fans, however people have now noticed a very similar riff in the EPs opening track ‘Dear Diary’ that sounds like a riff from a 2012 Deftones song called ‘Swerve City’.
Here’s the two songs for comparison. The riff starts at 2:10 on ‘Dear Diary’, and is at the beginning of ‘Swerve City’
This comes after Oli Sykes revealed he had subconsciously “ripped off” an Evanescence song.
In an interview with NME the frontman said “The weird thing about Evanescence is that we got sued by them on our last record,” going on to say “On ‘Nihilist Blues’ [from 2019 album ‘amo’], we ripped off one of their verses. It was subconscious, but when it happened we were like, ‘We’re not even going to argue’.”
This lead to the band to agree to share song writing credit with Amy Lee.
Evanescence’s management then reached out to Bring Me The Horizon, Oli continued “They were like, ‘Amy really likes your band and would love to work with you’. That was the silver lining.”
This series of events led to the bands new collab song on the new EP, called ‘One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March To Your Death’
The frontman has since clarified what happened, saying on twitter “And i have to clear something up! When i said Evanescence sued the band over nihilist blues, that wasn’t exactly true! Our managers just exchanged words and we offered them song writing credits, Amy Lee didn’t want a thing from the band in her words has nothing but love for us”
To which Evanescence’s frontwoman then jokingly replied “Yo don’t quote me or I’LL SUE! 😂”
“That whole story is actually really cool. Can’t believe it brought us HERE. You guys deserve every good thing that comes to you. Congrats 🥂”
